More than three years after the first season debuted and continued the story for John Cena’s titular character, Peacemaker Season 2 is on the horizon. At some point in the next year, Cena, James Gunn, and the rest of the crew from one of the best Max original series will be back for another round of action, and we have all the details.

While the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere date is still one of the biggest questions we have about Peacemaker’s journey, there’s quite a bit about the DCU show that we already know. What Is The Peacemaker Season 2 Premiere Date?

The exact Peacemaker Season 2 premiere date has not yet been announced, but James Gunn has revealed when anyone with a Max subscription can expect to see John Cena’s Christopher Smith back in action. In September 2024, the DC Studios boss revealed on Threads that the series would return in “2025 after Superman.” Gunn’s long-awaited Superman film is slated for a July 11, 2025 release, so that means we could be seeing Peacemaker Season 2 on the 2025 TV schedule as early as next summer.

Though there were a lot of character deaths during and before the Peacemaker Season 1 finale, the core group from the show’s chapter will be returning. Let’s take a look at all the returning stars and newcomers that make up the Peacemaker Season 2 cast.

John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker

No surprise, but John Cena will be back as Christopher Smith, a.k.a., Peacemaker, when the Max original series returns at some point in the future. Ever since the wrestler-turned-actor played the role in The Suicide Squad, he’s made the character his own, and has even shown up as the violent yet hilarious anti-hero while promoting the show.

Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo

Academy Award nominee Danielle Brooks has been on quite a roll since playing Leota Adebayo during Peacemaker Season 1, and she’ll be back as the co-lead of the series when it debuts somewhere down the road.

Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante

Adrian Chase, a.k.a., Vigilante, was one of the breakout characters from Peacemaker, and it looks like we haven’t seen the last of Freddie Stroma’s awkward and versatile assassin.

Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt

Jennifer Holland first played Emilia Harcourt in The Suicide Squad and later reprised the role for the first season of Peacemaker. The actress will once again be playing the fan-favorite character upon the show’s return.

Steve Agee as John Economos

And, what would Peacemaker be without the return of Steve Agee’s John Economos? Well, we won’t have to worry about that, as the actor will once again be playing the foul-mouthed A.R.G.U.S. agent.

Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.

Frank Grillo will join the list of actors to be in both DC and Marvel projects, as the Crossbones actor is set to play Rick Flag Sr., the father of Joel Kinnaman’s character from the Suicide Squad movies, per Variety.

Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux

Sol Rodriguez will be appearing throughout Peacemaker Season 2 as Sasha Bordeaux, a DC Comics character introduced back in the 2000s, according to THR. Prior to landing the role, Rodriguez appeared on shows like Devious Maids, NCIS, and Star Trek: Picard.

David Denman

David Denman, best known for his portrayal of Roy on The Office, is also set to show up in the next season of the popular DC comics series, per THR. However, Denman’s role has not yet been revealed.

Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury

Former Saturday Night Live mainstay and Ladies Man star Tim Meadows will be joining the Peacemaker Season 2 cast when he portrays A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury, per Deadline.

Robert Patrick as August “Auggie” Smith / White Dragon

Though his character seemingly died in the show’s first season, Robert Patrick will be back for a second round Peacemaker when he reprises his role as August “Auggie” Smith, aka White Dragon, aka Peacemaker’s dad, per PopVerse.

What Is Peacemaker Season 2 About?

We don’t fully know where things will pick back up for John Cena’s titular character (and everyone else) when Peacemaker Season 2 premieres in 2025, but we do know that the show’s sophomore chapter will take place after the events of James Gunn’s Superman movie.

Gunn, who is no stranger to responding to news and fans’ questions on his various social media pages, took to his Threads account in March 2024 to tell a fan that Peacemaker will take place after the events of Superman.

When Will We See The Peacemaker Season 2 Trailer?

With Peacemaker Season 2 not slated to land on Max until the second half of 2025, it will probably be well into next year before we get to catch a glimpse of the series.

Peacemaker Season 1 Won’t Be Part Of The DCU Canon

There has been a lot of confusion about what is and what isn’t part of the DCU canon, especially when it comes to characters, like Peacemaker, who were introduced in the now-defunct DCEU. Well, prepare for even more confusion, as the second season of Peacemaker will be part of the DCU, but the first season of the show will not be considered canon.

When addressing the issue of when and where the show takes place in March 2024, James Gunn also replied to a fan by saying Season 1 was not part of the DCU canon. The filmmaker and DC Studios chief later explained on Threads that “many strands will remain consistent” when it comes to Peacemaker’s story, but he didn’t elaborate any further.

James Gunn Has Written All Of Peacemaker Season 2, But He Won’t Be Directing Every Episode

Just like Peacemaker Season 1, and various other movies, TV shows, and short films he’s helmed over the years, James Gunn wrote the Max original series’ second season. In a March 2024 post on Threads, Gunn revealed that not only was he writing the upcoming second season, but he had already finished all of the episodes (later revealed to be eight like the first round)). However, Gunn also stated that, in the interest of getting the show out to fans, he won’t be directing every episode.

In June 2024, Deadline reported that Greg Mottola, best known for comedies like Superbad and Adventureland, would be directing a few episodes in the show’s second season. The following month, Peter Sollett took to his Instagram to share that he was also directing some of the new season alongside Gunn and Mottola.

Peacemaker Season 2 Will Have A New Intro With New Dancing Characters

One of the best things about Peacemaker was the show’s incredible and incredibly silly opening title sequence, but there will be some changes when the show returns for a second season. With so many characters featured in the opening credits, there were bound to be some changes to the choreography, and now James Gunn has addressed the whole situation.

In a February 2024 post on Threads (via ComicBook.com), the series creator revealed that a new intro with new characters would be coming for the second season, adding that Charissa Barton, who planned out the original sequence, would be returning for the next version. Honestly, this is one of the things we’re most excited to learn more about as we get closer to the show’s return.

Production On Peacemaker Season 2 Kicked Off In April 2024

Production on Peacemaker Season 2 officially got underway in April 2024 when James Gunn posted a picture on Threads showing John Cena’s iconic uniform and helmet. Gunn, who has been working on Superman at the same time, had previously confirmed a ComicBook report that shooting would take place throughout the summer. However, it is not yet known when principal photography will wrap on the sophomore season. Hopefully, we know more soon.

In September 2024, John Cena sat down for a chat with Variety to talk about the status of the series. During the conversation, where he stated that the long delay between seasons could be attributed to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s takeover of the DC Universe and them wanting to get things right, the wrestler-turned-actor said he was “filming every day.”

James Gunn Is Also Working On The Amanda Waller Spinoff Series

Peacemaker isn’t the only show take from the world of The Suicide Squad in the works, as James Gunn is also hard at work on getting the Waller Series off the ground. The upcoming TV show, which will center on Oscar winner Viola Davis’ legendary character, Amanda Waller, from the two Suicide Squad movies and Peacemaker Season 1, has been in the works for a while now, per Deadline.

In a March 2024 post on Threads, James Gunn commented on the series by denying rumors that Corey Hawkins would be a part of the series, adding that scripts weren’t finished yet. We should know more after Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 come out.
